Canada Greener Homes Loan Ends October 1st

Last Chance for Interest-Free Solar Financing

The clock is ticking. On October 1st, 2025, Canada’s most generous solar financing program disappears.

The Canada Greener Homes Loan has helped over 115,000 Canadian families install solar panels with zero-percent interest. After October 1st, it’s gone.

Here’s what you need to know:

      • Natural Resources Canada announced the closure after funds ran out faster than expected
      • You have exactly 13 days to secure up to $40,000 in interest-free financing
      • Miss the deadline, and you’ll pay thousands more for the same solar system

If you’ve been thinking about solar panels but haven’t pulled the trigger yet, the window is closing fast.

When Exactly Does the Greener Homes Loan Program End?

October 1st, 2025 is the hard deadline. No extensions, no exceptions. To qualify, you must complete three things before October 1st:
    • Get an EnerGuide pre-evaluation done and paid for
    • Have your energy advisor upload the report to Natural Resources Canada
    • Submit your loan application
Even if you apply on September 30th, funding isn’t guaranteed. Applications are processed first-come, first-served until the money runs out.

How Much Program Funding Actually Remains?

Natural Resources Canada started 2025 with $444 million remaining in the program. Canadians are burning through approximately $90 million per month in loan approvals. At that rate, funds could be exhausted before the October 1st deadline. Over 115,000 Canadian households have already used this program since it launched in 2021.

What’s the Real Cost If You Miss This Deadline?

You’ll pay regular financing rates of 6-8% interest instead of 0%. On a $30,000 solar system:
      • With the loan: $250/month for 10 years = $30,000 total
      • Without the loan: $340-370/month for 10 years = $40,800-44,400 total
The difference? You pay an extra $10,800-14,400 for the exact same solar system.

Why Is the Federal Government Ending This Popular Program?

Simple: they ran out of money faster than expected. The program was too successful. When the government added an extra $600 million in funding in 2024, they thought it would last longer. Canadian demand for solar financing exceeded all projections.

No additional funding has been announced. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

The window is closing fast. Every day you wait is money out of your pocket—and after October 1st, it’s a lot more money.
